Clive Davis Release New Memoir And Comes Out To Katie Courick: Admits He’s Bisexual
Legend record executive and Sony Music chief creative officer Clive Davis has come out the closet.
Airing on today’s episode of Katie Couric’s talk show, Katie, Clive opens up about his sexuality while discussing his new memoir “Soundtrack of My Life”.
In it he writes that he’s been in a “strong monogamous relationship” with a man for the last seven years: “I opened myself up to the possibility that I could have a relationship with a man as well as the two that I had with a woman.”, he says.
There is often the misconception that bisexuality does not exist in men; that either you are gay or straight and there’s no in between. However, Davis dispels the idea stating , “I never stopped being attracted to women. Bisexuality is misunderstood; the adage is that you’re either straight or gay or lying, but that’s not my experience. “
Davis , who’s been divorced twice, states that he hadn’t been repressed or confused during his marriages and that sex with a man “provided welcome relief.”
“For over 50 years I never had sex with a male. It wasn’t repressed. I had very good sexual relationships with women….To call me anything other than bisexual would be inaccurate”, the 80 year old Davis mogul writes.
Davis’ memoir also sheds light on Whitney Houston’s ongoing battle with drugs and her eventual death in 2012.
After her appearance during a concert at Madison Square Garden in 2001, Davis said, “She looked skeletal“. Davis says he was so consumed by his concern for her that he wrote her a letter desperately asking that she seek help: ” “Our anguish, our fear, our pain is just too much to bear. You must get help for yourself and for your close extended family.” But he later notes, “I knew that if an addict does not want to get help, there ultimately is very little that anyone else can do.”
Katie airs today at 3PM EST. Clive’s memoir ,’Soundtrack Of My Life”, will also be released today.
